I wanted to have additional cameras available on OBS studio for different scenes, and didn't want to buy additional cameras so did a quick Google to see if I could use my mobile phone as a web camera, the answer was yes, here's how I did it!

Step 1 - Install IP Webcam on mobile

Step 2 - Quick configure of IP Webcam:

  • I went into "Video Preferences" and dropped the "Video Resolution" to 1280x720. The recommendation on a few videos was 800x600, but 1280 seemed to work well for me.

  • Back to first page and chose "Audio Mode" and disabled it as I will use a microphone from another source.

Step 3 - Scrolled to the bottom of all the settings in IP Webcam and clicked "Start Server". On there they displayed an IP address, take a note of that.

Step 4 - Head to Chrome and type in the IP address in to the address bar, it will look something like this 192.168.xx.xxx:8080. The below screen should open:

Step 5: Next to "Video Renderer" click "Browser" the camera from your phone should be displayed on screen.

Step 6: Head to OBS, choose your scene and add "Window Capture" to the Scene, choose the web page displaying your camera feed. You Alt and resize to lose the rest of the web page and just be left with your video source.

Job done!
